Roswell Park Cancer Institute – 100 College Park
Faced with an increasing demand for chemotherapy and infusion services and to help meet the needs of cancer patients in Upstate New York, Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) chose to open their satelite Amherst Center at 100 College Park.
“We were looking for a site that would give our patients the same feelings of professionalism, comfort and security as they experience at Roswell’s downtown facility. When we walked into the lobby at College Park, the professional atmosphere and attention to client comfort was apparent,” notes Marcia Gruber, Vice President, Therapeutic Services and Patient Access. “Zaepfel Development’s creative team was a pleasure to work with; they had a good understanding of healthcare design and understood the need to create an environment where patients can feel comfortable.”
The 5,500-square-foot facility features 20 chemotherapy stations, four exam rooms, two nursing stations, offices for the on-site physician and nurse manager, a waiting and reception area, a chemotherapy mixing pharmacy and a lab/phlebotomy area. Laboratory services are available to Roswell Park patients with appointments at either the downtown or the Amherst location. The new Center offers chemotherapy and oncology clinic services Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, and can accommodate approximately 15,000 patients annually.
“The Amherst site is ideal because many Roswell Park patients live in the north town area, it is easily accessible from major highways, it is located near emergency care services, and it has pharmacy and laboratory capabilities,” according to David C. Hohn, MD, President and CEO of Roswell Park.
Roswell Park Cancer Institute, founded in 1898, is the nation’s first cancer research, treatment and education center and is the only National Cancer Institute- designated comprehensive cancer center in Upstate New York.
